Very interesting photo, thanks a lot!
According to "Gepanzerte Raritäten auf Rädern und Ketten bis 1945" some bridge-conversions of the Panzer II existed because the troops neded bridglayers but couldn't get them otherwise than making them themselves.
In the book mentioned above there is a photo of a Panzer II looking very similar to the one in you picture. It's dated 21. Mai 1940 and it says it's by Panzerpionierbataillon 58 of the 7th Panzerdivision.
I can't confirm or confute this info though.
Hope that helped a little bit,
Greetings, ekke

hi
Hi there,
Likewise, I've not seen a Ausf D version before, here is a photo of a more conventional Panzer II bridgelayer, not sure of the Ausf here, F?.
Photo from expired ebay photo, sometime last year, can't recall the seller.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Pz II Bridge-layer
Hello to all
; a little complement........................
As per the K.St.N.716 (dated 1.3.1940) the third company of each Pi Btl belonging to the ten panzer divisions, was to be organized as an armored company with its 3rd Platoon outfitted with four bridge-layers. The Pi Btl 37, 38, 39, 89 and 49 (1. Pz, 2. Pz, 3. Pz, 5. Pz and 10. Pz) with Brückenpanzer IV and the Pi Btl 79, 57, 58, 59 and 86 (4. Pz, 6. Pz, 7. Pz, 8. Pz and 9. Pz) with Brückenpanzer II.
