OK, my try... I would say Luigi Ferraro (later Gold Metal for Military Valour) and his wife Orietta Romano (but the gallant lady was not a "Gamma" assault swimmer properly, AFAIK she just underwent some limited training with underwater rebreather sets at Livorno).

A small help. The weapons is sometimes listed as an howitzer (quite incorrectly, as the barrel lenght was under 15 calibres long).

C'mon, it's not that difficult

Another small help. It was in use by GaF batteries only (260th to 263rd, one in each battery).

Last help. It was a Skoda model, WW1 prize-of-war.

OK, probably it was not so easy as I guessed. The correct answer is the the mighty Skoda 420/12. Italy got nine of those 113 tons monsters after WW1 from Austria-Hungary as prize-of-war: at the beginning of WW2 four where assigned to the Guardia alla Frontiera (batteries 260th, 261st, 262nd and 263rd, with one mortar each), two were being reactivated at the Piacenza arsenal, and one had been scrapped and was used as a spare-parts source.

OK, anybody willing to post a new quiz, please do.

IMHO, the name under question is Etna - first one is protected cruiser, second one - ex-Thai light cruiser Taksin aka Italian AA cruiser Etna. On the second photo you can see her hull with the hull of her sistership Vesuvio (ex-Thai Naresuan) after the war.

Best regards, Aleks
Sadly, those 2 light cruisers cannot be delivered ... and it takes years to get our money back ....
