Breda Ba 201 information

#1

Post by mpaterno234 » 25 Feb 2006, 23:50

I am trying to find out any information I can find on the Breda Ba 201 dive bomber. I know that only 2 prototypes were built, and it had the DB 601 engine, but that's all I know. I don't know it's specs or speed, but I have seen a picture of it. Any help from anyone would be a major help...

Dimensions: 13.00 x 11.09 x 3.10m
Wing area: 24.84m2
Weight: 2,380kg empty, 3,650kg max
Speed: 460km/h at 4,000m max, 110km/h min
Climb to 4,000m in 7'50"
Range: 1,200km
Armament: 2x 12.7mm, 500kg bombs

During comparing duels against MC.202, it was discovered that in a dive the Ba.201 was virtually invulnerable, since after opening the airbrakes it slowed so much that the fighters were unable to keep a chasing position, being forced to overtaking it.

It was tried to employ MM.452 during Mid-June (the plane was flown to Gela) but it was found impossible to load the bomb onboard (wrong ground equipment).

Thank you so much, Davide! It's been difficult to find out any technical info on this plane (at least for me) and I appreciate what you wrote. I understand that a model of it is coming out soon (I believe the company is Special Hobby, but I could be wrong), so I can't wait to build it. From what I've seen of the plane, the lines appear to be very sleek and from what I've read, the only reason the Italians didn't pursue the project was because of the lack of DB 601 engines. It's a shame....it seemed to be a better aircraft than the JU 87 and should have been looked into.

BTW, the airplane in the picture is MM.451. I haven't seen a picture of MM.452.
