The official AHF other equipment quiz thread

#1

Post by Marcus » 18 Mar 2006, 13:12

We've had several different quizes running here in the forum for a while with great success and as was pointed out, no one existed in this section so I'm starting one here too.

The rules are very simple:
The first one to post the correct answer to a question, posts a new question (must be on equipment used by the Axis not covered in the other sections) and so on.

Hi

I've been so busy lately that I haven't even had time to play about in the Quiz sections. I'm taking abreak from my studies this morning and what do I see but a "new" quiz. Good idea, Steuner. :D

I'm game to ask one to get the ball rolling even if it is rather easy.

What is represented in the picture?

regards
A :)

Hallo Steuner

I'm sorry but too small for V2 launch equipment, I should think.

Hint - This is a "vehicle" that carried "vessels". It was powered by wood and usually had 2 horsepower.

In english the hints are misleading,
but it certainly is the relic of a "Gulaschkanone", a mobil kitchen.

Hi Christian

Yes, I would not have wanted the hints to absolutely give you the correct answer, would I?

Gulaschkanone is correct. :D
Pic source= http://www.arcticwar.com/report_laststand.html

"Vehicle"= Trailer or cart, "Vessels" = the containers the food was put in, Wood= wood fired heat, and 2 horsepower= the 2 horses that pulled it.

Over to you.

regards
A :)

EZ 16, direction finding antenna (used for navigation), mounted on Ju-88, He-219 and so on.

Thanks Chris, I'm still confused about what part is called EZ 6.
Do you have a good web resource with descriptions of Luftwaffe aircraft radios (I'm especially interested in their modes of operation),
other than the usual http://www.laud.no/ww2 , http://www.noding.com/la8ak/e.htm , luftarchiv.net ?

Now, my question.
Describe the function of this device, name the application and at least one reason why it was a first of its kind.

Hint -- DON'T LOOK HERE YET

Because the picture is poor, people might have difficulties recognizing it, even if its unlikely to have seen this device before (there aren't many pictures of this device floating around - I'm very interesting in seeing better pictures of it), I will give an important hint, that will narrow down the search significantly: it is a computer.

(remember, the question is about ww2 Axis equipment)
